Site preparation for the IOLS may be minor. Often the software is run on existing computer hardware so preparation of a computer facility is not required. It is necessary, however, to consider placement and installation of terminals and printers. Your planning should consider the various processes to be performed by the system and the individuals performing those functions. Which staff members will need to use terminals and how often? Will local printing be required or is access to a system printer sufficient? If you are planning to use barcodes, you will need to order and install barcode readers. Preprinted barcode labels or label printers should also be ordered early. If other equipment needs to be installed in the library, for the online public access catalog for example, you will need to prepare the appropriate work orders as soon as practical so that all necessary staff will have access to the system when it is available.
